Random Color Palette Generator

Stuck on the same safe colors? Generate a palette, lock what clicks, export the rest. Free in your browser.

  • 100% Random
  • Free & Easy
  • No Login Required

Blank artboard, deadline creeping in, and your hand goes straight to the same navy you used last project. Hit Generate for one swatch or Generate Palette for a full set. You might land on a combination you would never have picked on purpose. Free in the browser, nothing to install.

This page is a random color palette generator: HEX, RGB, and HSL ready to copy, in sets of 1, 3, 5, 8, or 10 colors. Drawing names or splitting teams? That is the name picker or team generator, not this tool.

What Is a Random Color Palette Generator?

It rolls fresh colors in your browser: one for a quick prompt, or several together for a mockup, poster, slide deck, or game UI. Each swatch shows its closest color name so you are not staring at a hex code wondering what to call it.

When you choose by hand, you drift toward the same safe neutrals. Random starts break that habit. Many designers use the first roll as a direction, not a final brand sheet, and that is exactly what this page is for.

Who Keeps This Tab Open?

  • UI designers and devs testing directions before locking a theme
  • Illustrators who need a push off the white canvas
  • Teachers running color-of-the-day or warm-up exercises
  • Party hosts handing out team colors without a debate
  • Friends turning swatches into dares, prompts, or sketch challenges

Picking between finished options in front of a crowd? Put labels on a spin wheel. Building a reveal box? The mystery box editor lives on the same site.

Two Workflows People Actually Use

"I just need one color"

The Random Color panel on the left shows a big swatch, the hex, and copy buttons for each format. Generate rolls again; Copy All grabs HEX, RGB, and HSL in one go. Press Space when you are not typing in a field.

"I need a palette I can ship"

In Random Palette, pick how many swatches (1, 3, 5, 8, or 10), then Generate Palette. Lock the ones you like, generate again, and only the open slots change. That is how you hunt for a set without losing the anchor color you already love.

Steer the Mood, Keep the Surprise

Color Style on the right nudges the next roll toward a vibe: soft Pastel, loud Neon, earthy Nature, deep Ocean, warm Sunset, playful Candy, muted Vintage, sharp Cyberpunk, and more. Styles apply on the next generate. They do not repaint what is already on screen.

Filters tighten further: Brightness, Saturation, and Temperature each offer a few chips (light/dark, soft/vibrant, warm/cool). Tap one and generate again. No sliders to fiddle with forever.

Truly stuck? Surprise Me at the top picks a random style and filter combo, then drops a fresh palette in one click. Quick Generate and Shift + Space do the same from the keyboard.

Harmonies, Gradients, and "Will Text Read on This?"

Pick a base color, open Color Harmony, choose a mode like Complementary or Triadic, and hit Generate Harmony. Click a harmony swatch to make it the active color, or Apply to Palette to replace your main grid.

Gradient Generator blends two palette colors into a preview strip plus ready-to-paste CSS. Copy CSS or Export CSS Vars when it looks right.

Before you put white text on a bright swatch, check Color Information: contrast against black and white, a Best text color suggestion, and an AA badge when the pair passes WCAG AA. Inspiration is the goal here. Still run a full accessibility review before production brand work.

Save It, Share It, Export It

Save Palette (or the heart on a recent swatch) stores favorites on this device. Copy Link puts the exact colors in the URL so a teammate opens the same swatches. Share shows up when your browser supports native sharing.

The Export row downloads HEX, RGB, CSS, Tailwind, JSON, SVG, or PNG. Recent Colors below lists singles you generated. Click one to reuse it as your base. Favorites brings saved palettes back in one tap.

On the palette panel itself: Shuffle reorders unlocked slots, Lock All freezes the grid, Copy grabs a HEX list, and L toggles lock on the selected swatch.

Is It Actually Random?

Yes. Each draw uses secure randomness in your browser. Presets and filters shrink the pool (pastel, warm, dark, and so on), but the pick inside that pool is still unbiased. Generate again and you get a new result; yesterday's roll does not nudge today's.

Palette Tool or Name Picker?

  • Color palette generator: random hues, lock-and-reroll, export for design
  • Name picker: one winner from a text list
  • Team generator: split people into groups
  • Shuffle list: reorder lines, not colors

Why Not Just Pick Colors Yourself?

Because your eye has favorites, and under time pressure you reach for them every time. A random palette generator is a nudge toward combinations you would not have tried, with copy-paste export, harmony math, and contrast hints in the same tab.

That is the workflow illustrators, teachers, and side-project devs repeat when they need a starting point, not a finished brand book. More free tools, coin, dice, numbers, lists, sit on the random tools hub. When the moment needs an audience watching, not a hex code in a doc, a labeled spin wheel usually fits better.
