Review policyHow this random team generator splits a group
Need to split a group into teams? Paste the names and Spin. This random team generator picks the next person while everyone watches. Name their team, turn on Remove Winner, spin again. You can fill four teams in about a minute. No app.
Put it on a workshop projector or a laptop at the front of the room. Call Team 1 through Team 4 before you start. When a name lands, send that person to the next team in rotation. Sixteen first names are already on the wheel so you can try a four-team split, then paste your own roster.
Each spin uses your browser's built-in secure random function (crypto.getRandomValues). Names still on the wheel have the same odds. The room can see the slices.
Keep finished teams within one person of each other. If you already know you need six teams of four and only want a board to copy into chat, use Split by team count or size. Other jobs in this category live under more Team Building wheels.
Edit the list, then Spin.

How to split a group on this wheel
Paste or review the names. Replace the sample list with your roster, one name per line. Delete absentees. Keep first names short so they read from the back of the room.
Say how many teams you need. Example: four. Fill Team 1, Team 2, Team 3, Team 4 in rotation as names land.
Spin once. Click Spin so everyone can watch it stop. The result is the next person. Say which team they join.
Turn on Remove Winner. That person drops off so they cannot land again.
Repeat until the list is empty. If one team would end two people larger than the others, move one person by hand. Copy the wheel if a co-host needs the same list.
When to use this wheel
Workshop breakout on a projector
You need four discussion tables and people are already standing. Project the wheel, spin through the roster, and send each person to the next table as their name lands.
Pickup-game sides in a gym
Two or more sides, without a captains draft. Paste the players who showed up, spin, and fill each side in rotation so the room sees the same split.
Meeting split into discussion tables
After the intro you need small groups. Edit the attendee names, spin at the front of the room, and point people to tables as they land.
Tips
Keep 8 to 16 short first names on the wheel. Long full names are hard to read on a projector.
Turn on Remove Winner so each person lands once while you fill teams.
Announce the team as each name lands ("Lena, Team 2") so people can move without a second slide.
Use fullscreen on a laptop or workshop projector. Share the tab on a video call if some people are remote.
Bookmark or copy the wheel if you reuse this roster. It does not store a week of past splits.
If two people should not sit together, take one name off before you spin, or move one person after. This page will not keep them apart for you.
